FXOpen to offer free education in Moscow

Moscow, Russia – April 23, 2010. FXOpen Investment Inc. participated in the Ninth International Exhibition MOSCOW FOREX EXPO, that took place in the Radisson SAS Centre on April 23-24, 2010. When placing orders from charts there is no need to remember which type of pending orders to use.

To place a pending order via a chart just right click with mouse on the desired point in the chart where you would like to place the order and select the “Trading” command in the menu. You will see the types of available pending orders that can be placed.

After you have selected one of the order types, the platform will show the order creation/modification window with partly filled fields. You will then need to specify Stop Loss and/or Take Profit values.

There can be four types of pending orders:

Buy Limit — the current price level is above the value of the order to be placed
Buy Stop — the current price level is below the value of the order to be placed
Sell Limit — the current price level is below the value of the order to be placed
Sell Stop — the current price level is above the value of the order to be placed

Using Neural Networks In MetaTrader

Many of you probably have considered the possibility of using neural networks in your EA. This subject was very hot specially after 2007 Automated Trading Championship and the spectacular winning by Better with his system based on neural networks. Many internet forums were flooded with topics related to neural networks and Forex trading. Unfortunately writing native MQL4 implementation of NN is not easy. It requires some programming skills and the result would not be very efficient specially if you’d like to test your final result in tester on large number of data.

In this article I’ll show you how you can use the freely available (under LGPL), renowned Fast Artificial Neural Network Library (FANN) in your MQL4 code while avoiding certain obstacles and limitations. Further I assume that reader is familiar with Artificial Neural Networks (ann) and terminology related to this subject so I’ll concentrate on practical aspects of using particular implementation of ann in MQL4 language.

When you switch between accounts, the profiles will be opened automatically.

To create a profile, you must save it under the name which is exactly the same as the account number.

Introduction

What is an indicator? It is a tool intended for displaying a certain type of data. Usually it is information about the price series properties, exactly this type of indicators will be considered further.

Each indicator also has its own properties and characteristics: for example, the range of values, the overbuying/overselling zones, the line crossing, tops and bottoms… They are numerous and can be successively used together with the main indicator values. However, such properties are not always vivid. The reasons can be different – small size of the indicator window, lower concentration, etc.

The purpose of this article is to help you to improve the descriptive and informational value of indicators, as well as partial automation and facilitation of the code implementation process. I hope the code below will cause no difficulties both for professional developers and beginners.

The article is intended for those who have at least the starting level of MQL4 knowledge and can implement simple ideas and algorithms in a code, as well as knows about the structure of code storage in the terminal and can use the libraries (experts/libraries) and header files (experts/include).

Select the expert advisor you wish to back test
Select the symbol you wish to back test
Select a testing model (every tick model recommended)
Set a testing period

MetaTrader Tips – Popup Prices Window

To enable the popup window to be “Always on the Top” right mouse click in the popup window. This will enable you quotes while working with other applications.

You can also select “Properties…” in the right click menu of the popup prices window, which will allow you to adjust colors and fonts.

MetaTrader Tips – Check Price Range

You can check the price range and the number of bars between two points using the ruler.

To do so, select the “Crosshair” object, click with the left mouse button on the first point in the chart and drag the cursor to the second point.

The first number (23) is the count of bars, the second number (157) is the price range in pips, the third number (1.8705) is the bid price in the second point.

MetaTrader Expert Advisors file should have the file extension of .ex4 (compiled code) or .mq4 (sourse code). First it is necessary to copy this file to the folder Experts of the MetaTrader working directory (usually C:\Program Files\MetaTrader Broker Name or MetaTrader).

The second step is to restart MetaTrader. After the restart the expert should be added to the list of experts in the Navigator window. It necessary to stress that the colored icon corresponds to mq4 file. If you have an ex4 file only, an icon in the window Navigator will be grey. The same grey color may mean that the errors in a source code appeared.

In order to check errors in the EA, you can press F4, the editor of language MQL4 , and then it is necessary to load the source code of expert into the editor. Press F5 in order to compile the expert advisor. In case of success, the sentence ’0 errors’ will appear in conclusion window. Warnings are not errors and their presence does not hinder the successful compiling.

Let’s look at how to optimize an expert advisor. In the example below we will look to optimize the size of stop loss and take profit.

Expert Optimization Steps

1. Open the Strategy Tester window by pressing Ctrl+R.

2. In the Strategy Tester window, select Expert Properties

3. Select the Optimized parameters ( in our example stop-loss and stop-profit)

4. Enter the initial values of the optimized parameters, step and stop

5. Close the window

6. Select Optimization

7. Choose a model for optimization ( a model “ Open prices only (fastest method to analyze the bar just completed)” corresponds to the most advisors, although for greater accuracy it is possible to test on Every tick (based on all available least timeframes) but then time of optimization substantially will be increased.

8. Press start

9. After completion of optimization, open Optimization result and choose parameters considering a highest income and minimum drawdown. (obviously income should be high and drawdown should be less)

MetaTrader Tips – Save Bandwidth Unused Symbols

Your internet traffic can be reduced if the unused symbols are hidden.

You are able to hide symbols several ways:

1. Right mouse click in the “Market Watch” window then select ”Hide All”.

2. Select the symbol using the left mouse button then press Delete.

3. Right mouse click in the “Market Watch” window and select the “Symbols” command then hide/show symbols in the window that appears.

Note: The symbol cannot be hidden if:

There are open positions or pending orders for the symbol
The chart has been opened within the current session
The symbol is used to recalculate cross rates

MetaTrader Tips – Favorites Group

MetaTrader Tips – Minimize Terminal Window
